Tony also had a FaceTime call with his son, Stephen, who lives in Sri Lanka.

When asked about the secret to reaching 100, Tony simply said: "Just luck."

After leaving the forces, he worked as a draughtsman, planning and making maps.

Tony's life journey saw him move to Kenya, where he met his first wife, Barbara.

The couple had three sons before relocating to Australia, where they lived for 20 years.

He later met his second wife, Rosie and retired in Australia in his 50s.

Christopher said: "Growing up, he was always a patient and gentle dad to my brothers and I and then supported his second wife Rosie's three daughters."

Tina Vincent, home manager at Fairlawn, said: "It was wonderful to see Tony surrounded by his family for his 100th birthday."
