The incident occurred around 2:10 pm local time while the aircraft performed an aerial display before a large crowd. Multiple videos captured the exact moment the jet lost control and plunged toward the ground, producing a massive cloud of smoke.

Footage circulating online shows the Tejas executing a manoeuvre before abruptly descending at an unusual angle. Within seconds, the jet slammed into the ground, where thick smoke billowed across the airfield. Spectators and participants at the air show were visibly shocked as emergency alarms sounded across the venue.

Tragically, the pilot of the HAL Tejas fighter jet did not survive the crash at the Dubai Air Show.

The Indian Air Force released an official statement on the crash. ''IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at Dubai Air Show, today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief. A court of inquiry is being constituted, to ascertain the cause of the accident,'' IAF wrote.

The crash video quickly went viral, with aviation analysts and former pilots closely examining the frames leading up to the impact. Many noted that the angle of descent suggested a sudden technical malfunction or loss of control, prompting the pilot's rapid decision to eject.

The Dubai Air Show, which hosts some of the world's most advanced military and commercial aircraft, temporarily halted demonstrations as emergency crews secured the area.

The incident comes just a day after the government clarified that viral claims about an alleged oil leak from the LCA Tejas Mk1 at the Dubai Airshow 2025 were false. The Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit had debunked those social media posts, explaining that the videos being circulated showed a routine and intentional procedure, not a technical malfunction. According to officials, several propaganda accounts had amplified misleading claims to suggest a performance issue with the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).

Authorities confirmed that the fluid seen in the viral clips was condensed water being expelled from the aircraft's Environmental Control System (ECS) and On-Board Oxygen Generating System (OBOGS). These are standard operating procedures, especially in humid regions like Dubai, and are not indicative of any fault.

Officials dismissed the speculation as "fake" and said the posts appeared aimed at undermining confidence in the fighter jet's capabilities.

The Tejas Mk1 continues to represent India's push to showcase indigenous defence aviation at global platforms, with its participation in foreign airshows highlighting the country's expanding aerospace expertise.
