Namal Rajapakse informed the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) that if they could not find a suitable candidate for the upcoming presidential election, he was ready to run.
This was informed when the SLPP Executive Committee met at Mahinda Rajapaksa’s official residence on Friday (7).
However, the official agreement of the party has not been taken in this regard, and it has not been reported that anyone has opposed it.
Amidst these developments, Namal Rajapaksa has also proposed the name of Rohitha Abeygunawardena as the National Convener of the party. However, the acceptance of this position was met with a lack of enthusiasm, raising questions among the executive committee about the underlying motives behind this proposal.
