New energy for the struggle on the highway – a sea of people for the electricity struggle
A large number of people participated in today’s demonstration against the government’s move to break up the Electricity Board into 12 parts and sell it.
This campaign was launched while President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the joint Pohottu administration were preparing plans to sell to the private sector the power and energy and telecommunication services that are extremely sensitive to state security.
All trade unions belonging to Ceylon Electricity Board have jointly announced a 3-day protest campaign under the theme “Let’s not allow to sell – rally to protect.”
The initial campaign was held in front of the Sri Lanka Electricity Board headquarters this afternoon (January 03). The protest movement is scheduled to be held tomorrow and the following day.
