Police Introduce Email Channel to Report Facebook Groups Sharing Obscene Images
Sri Lanka Police have introduced a dedicated email address for the public to report Facebook groups involved in sharing obscene images of women and children, amid an increase in the circulation of such content, including AI-generated videos.
The Police Computer Crime Investigation Division said complaints regarding images and videos that cause harassment or distress can be submitted to [email protected].
Police said action is being taken to identify and disable Facebook groups involved in distributing such material and to arrest those responsible.
Meanwhile, officers from the Police Bureau for the Prevention and Investigation of Abuse of Children and Women arrested a 21-year-old man in the Beliatta area over allegations that he operated Facebook groups that published obscene images of women and children.
The suspect’s mobile phone was also taken into police custody, and further investigations are underway.
Police urged anyone with information about individuals involved in such activities to contact the Computer Crime Investigation Division on 011 2381058.
