Presenting a common candidate for the presidential election is a threat to the Tamil people
Member of Parliament of Dravida National Alliance M. A. Sumandhiran says that the discussion of presenting a common candidate to represent the Tamil people in the upcoming presidential election is a mockery of their existence and a threat.
He had made this statement at a public meeting held in Jaffna last Sunday (09). He further stated that repeated talks about providing a federal solution for the Tamil people are of no avail, nor is it a solution. He has also emphasized the crucial role of the politicians who are the people’s representatives in understanding and respecting the expectations of the Tamil public, thereby empowering and valuing their voice in the political process.
Also, he has emphasized that people should be made aware that the responsibility for the public cannot be left to the civil organizations and the politicians cannot be excluded and that the current discussion about presenting a common candidate for the Tamil people is not the solution. He has emphasized that taking this political stand can be labelled as “disloyal”, but such labels are no longer valid, and if a Tamil common candidate is presented, action should be taken against such a move.
