Pushing for industrial and technological cooperation, Punjab's Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann, aims to strengthen strategic partnerships with Japan. These collaborations will focus on key sectors like advanced manufacturing, mobility, electronics, food processing, renewable energy, and global services. In a high-level virtual meeting, Mann engaged with representatives from the Japanese Embassy, JETRO, J.C.C.I.I., and over 25 top Japanese companies, including Panasonic, Toyota, NEC, and Sumitomo.

This dialogue is a significant step in expanding Punjab's global outreach before the 6th Progressive Punjab Investor Summit in March 2026 at ISB Mohali. The presence of companies such as Panasonic, Toyota, NEC, Nippon, and Sumitomo highlighted the growing international relevance of Punjab. "Punjab is a land of courage, hard work, creativity, and partnership," the Chief Minister expressed, emphasising its critical role in India's food production.

Strengthening Economic Ties with Japan

Praising Punjab's industry-friendly policies and the Invest Punjab Unified Regulatory Model, the Japanese delegation acknowledged the state's progressive initiatives. "Punjab is now ready to become a hub for modern industry, technology, and global cooperation," stated the Chief Minister. He extended an invitation to Japanese industries to participate in the upcoming investor summit, aiming to deepen collaborations based on shared values of trust, quality, and long-term commitment.

Japanese companies have already established a strong presence in Punjab. Notable firms in the automobile and manufacturing sectors include Mazda, Sumitomo, Yanmar, and SML Isuzu. In packaging and industrial products, Toppan and Oji Holdings are active, while Kansai Nerolac and Nissan Chemical lead in the paint and chemical sectors. Uniqlo, Mitsui & Co., and Yanmar Agriculture Machinery have shown commitment to quality, skill, and sustainability in Punjab.

Recognition of Business-Friendly Policies

Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora highlighted the FastTrack Punjab digital platform, which guarantees over 200 business services within 45 days, including several auto-deemed approvals. He noted that Punjab has attracted investments exceeding ₹1.39 lakh crore, creating over 5 lakh jobs. The state government is also investing ₹5,000 crore to strengthen power infrastructure, ensuring 24×7 world-class facilities for industries.

Officials from JETRO and the Japanese Embassy praised Punjab's active initiatives, quality human capital, and investment-friendly policies. They recognised the state's efforts to create a conducive environment for businesses. These initiatives are part of Punjab's broader strategy to position itself as a key player in advanced manufacturing, mobility, renewable energy, digital services, and food processing.

At the investor summit, Japanese companies will have the opportunity to explore further investments and partnerships. Punjab's future is centred on sectors where Japan excels globally. The Chief Minister is confident that Punjab and Japan will strengthen their cooperation, enhancing economic ties and mutual growth in the coming years.

The high-level virtual meeting with Japanese companies underscores the state's commitment to fostering international partnerships and economic development. By focusing on key industries and leveraging Japan's expertise, Punjab is poised to become a significant hub for modern industry and global collaboration.
