Rebuild Health System – Dr. Harini Amarasuriya
The public’s admiration and trust in the free health service in Sri Lanka has been badly broken, especially in the last two years, and the institutional system must be rebuilt, says Member of Parliament of the National People’s Power Dr Harini Amarasuriya.
She emphasized this when she participated in the committee stage on the 2024 Budget yesterday (30) when discussing allocations for the Ministry of Health.
Speaking further, she emphasized that there was a lot of room for fraud and corruption in the Ministry of Health, and investigations should be carried out promptly and comprehensively, and the culprits should be brought before the law. She pointed out that in the two years that have passed since the COVID-19 epidemic, children are suffering from stressful situations, and domestic violence has reached a high level. To prevent it, the government should make a comprehensive intervention regarding mental health services, she added.
The NPP MP pointed out the need for a significant intervention by the government in the field of Ayurvedic medicine and such alternative medical methods by correctly understanding the current crises in the country. She pointed out that a lot of attention has been given to the shortage of doctors in government hospitals, but no such attention has been given to the nurses going abroad. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya also emphasized that the shortage of equipment and medicines was acute.
