Renovations of Pettah Central Bus Terminal & Maradana station, begin today

The long-awaited renovation of the Pettah Central Bus Terminal is set to commence today (Sep. 15) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

This marks the first major upgrade to the terminal in over 06 decades since its establishment in 1964.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Chairman – Jeevaka Prasanna Purasinghe stated that the renovation project, valued at Rs.425 million, will be undertaken by the Sri Lanka Air Force and is expected to be completed within 08 months.

During the renovation, all non-scheduled long-distance bus services will be temporarily relocated to Bodhiraja Mawatha (100 Feet Road), while long-distance buses operating under the integrated timetable will function from the Bastiyan Mawatha Private Bus Stand.

In addition, the renovation of the Maradana Railway Station will also commence today under the patronage of the President.

The station is not only the country’s second largest but also a site of historical significance.
