September 06, Colombo (LNW): Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in Uva and Eastern provinces.
A few showers will occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
The sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28th of August to 07th of September due to its apparent southward relative motion. The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (06) are Bentota, Thiniyawala, Iththakanda, Udawalawe, and Kataragama about 12.08 noon.
Marine Weather:
Condition of Rain: Showers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa during the evening or night.
Winds: Winds will be South-westerly. Wind speed will be (30-40) kmph.
Wind speed can increase up to 55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
State of Sea: The sea areas off the coasts extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar will be fairly rough at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
