Source

Colombo (LNW): The Liberian government has called upon Sri Lankan Envoy in Kenya, Kana Kananathan, to join the monitoring of the country’s presidential election and legislative election scheduled for October 10, 2023, making Liberia the fifth country in the African region to recognise and seek expertise from the Sri Lankan diplomat.

Previously, Kananathan rendered his observatory services in countries like Kenya, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe, further strengthening Sri Lanka’s pride in his accomplishments.

His engagement in Liberia’s impending elections resonates with the international admiration he has garnered over the years for his commitment to ensuring transparent elections that truly reflect the people’s will.

Joining forces with esteemed bodies like the African Union, the European Union, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Mr. Kananathan is set to play a crucial role in overseeing the electoral process in the African country.

Amidst an estimated population of 5.4 million, around 2,471,617 Liberians are registered to cast their votes. These votes will decide the fate of the presidency, 15 senatorial seats, and 73 positions in the House of Representatives.

Liberia’s current President George Weah representing the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) is seeking for a second term in office.
