Sobadhanavi LNG plant connected to national grid

The Kerawalapitiya Sobadhanavi LNG Power Plant has officially been connected to the national electricity grid.

This development took place under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Power, Engineer Kumara Jayakody.

Addressing the event, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that the objective of the government is to make Sri Lanka a country with the lowest electricity prices in the region, thereby providing fair and affordable electricity to all citizens.
The Sobadhanavi power plant, located in Kerawalapitiya, has a total generation capacity of 350 megawatts, making it a significant addition to the country’s energy infrastructure.

The first phase of the LNG Power Plant was commissioned on August 28, 2024.
