Sri Lankan Innovator Honoured Globally Meets Prime Minister
Dr. Nadisha Chandrasena, who was recently honoured with the prestigious 2025 WIPO Global Award for Intellectual Property, met Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in Colombo on July 21. The award, presented by the World Intellectual Property Organisation a UN agency promoting innovation and creativity recognises outstanding contributions in the field of intellectual property.
Dr. Chandrasena’s award-winning invention, a “Smart Drainage System” designed to tackle urban flooding caused by plastic-blocked open drains, was selected from over 780 entries across 95 countries. The innovation earned global recognition at a ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya congratulated Dr. Chandrasena on her achievement, commending her for bringing international attention to Sri Lankan ingenuity. The Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Pradeep Saputhantri, was also present at the meeting.
