Cabinet media spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath states that the Cabinet decided to strongly reject the draft 51/1 proposed in the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
He stated this at a press conference held yesterday (8)  to announce cabinet decisions.
Minister Vijitha Herath said that Sri Lanka strongly rejects the proposed draft resolution in the current session of the United Nations Human Rights Council and that the Cabinet decided not to agree to any proposal extending the powers of the mechanism.
He also says that while Sri Lanka continues to oppose Human Rights Council resolution 51/1, it has decided not to agree to any proposal extending the powers of the external evidence-gathering mechanism.
Accordingly, the Council of Ministers has considered the matters presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vijitha Herath, regarding the 57th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which is being held in Geneva from the 9th of last month to the 11th of this month and the position of the Government of Sri Lanka has been announced as stated above.
