Sri Lanka’s inflation rate based on NCPI drops to minus 0.2% in Sept

Sri Lanka’s overall inflation rate based on the national consumer price index (NCPI) decreased to minus 0.2 per cent in September this year from 1.1 per cent in August, according to the department of census and statistics (DCS).

Non-food inflation decreased to minus 0.7 per cent in the month from 0.2 per cent reported in the preceding month.

The NCPI with an index reference period 2013=100 was updated to a new index reference period 2021=100. The updated NCPI will be released for every month commencing from January 2023 with a time lag of 21 days covering the entire country, a DCS release said.

The NCPI for all items for September 2024 was 203.1, a decrease of 1 index point, compared to August, for which the index was 204.1.
