Colombo (6 February 2023): The visual art exhibition of Sujith Rathnayake, titled arbudhaya saha aragalaya (crisis & struggle) will be open to the public from 8 to 15 February 2023, at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery, Colombo.
Presented by the Exhibition Committee of the Art Gallery of the Galle Face Protest Site, the exhibition at the Lionel Wendt Gallery is open to the public, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., 8 to 15 February. The art works depicted in this unique exhibition stemming from the Galle Face aragalaya protest site, have been created by Rathnayake during the aragalaya occupation of the Galle Face green, and in subsequent months leading upto the exhibition. The exhibition is termed a ‘visual art attack’ consisting of painting, assemblage, installation, and mixed media work.
Rathnayake initiated an art gallery and studio at the Galle Face aragalaya site, which was open from 9 April to 21 July 2022, as a space to freely engage in painting and drawing, and to display their art creations at the premises. The gallery and studio space, which was one of the first to be burnt down completely on 9 May 2022, was immediately reestablished for continued art engagement.
Sujith Rathnayake, along with the Exhibition Committee, friends and organizers of the Art Gallery of the Galle Face Protest Site, invite everyone to visit this exhibition to engage in a investigative study of the present crisis and struggle in Sri Lanka.
