‘Tamil common candidate’ is a move to deceive Tamil people – Sumanthiran
Nominating a common candidate for the upcoming presidential election is futile, says Jaffna District Member of Parliament MA Sumanthiran, leader of the Ilangei Tamil Arasu Katchi Party. He says that Tamil parties and civil organizations in the north are already planning to present a common candidate jointly, but his party would not support such a move.
MP Sumanthiran said this decision is a move to deceive the Tamil people again and added that by presenting a common candidate, Tamil Makkal Kattani Party leader P.V. Vigneswaran hopes he could gain power. Sumanthiran says that his party has not yet decided who it will support in the presidential election, but a decision will be made as soon as the main candidates present their policy statements.
