“The corrupt ruling groups that have sensed defeat and cannot even think of giving up power are trying to avoid this situation by launching false campaigns using various tactics. Alliances are being built with ridiculous political performances. People are trying to deceive the people again by showing a new look. The same people who bankrupted the country are making promises to the people about building a pleasant country,” says Tilvin Silva, General Secretary of the JVP.
He said this while addressing a press conference of the National People’s Power held at the JVP head office at Pelawatta yesterday (29).
He said, “The Election Commission must act to hold the presidential election in late September or early October this year. When an election comes, the people of our country have a massive hope to change this evil regime. The increase in the price of goods and the inability to get food three times a day has increased malnutrition in the country, and due to the tax policies implemented by the government, a large number of small and medium-scale businesses have collapsed. Due to all this, a large number of people are highly affected. Everyone is waiting to change the conditions like lack of medicine, sub-standard medicine, education issues, colossal tax burden, and build a country where people can live happily. More people are leaving the country because of this oppression.
People do not need to form a government for simple changes. For the past 76 years, governments have been built on simple slogans. It is not like bringing eight pounds of bread, nuts and rice from the moon for 3.50 rupees. The economy has been reduced to zero, and the country has been officially declared bankrupt with an unsustainable debt burden. On the other hand, there are severe social, economic, political and cultural issues in situations like the breakdown of society, the lack of rule of law, and the violation of the constitution by the government itself. A profound transformation is needed in the country to find solutions to these problems. The people are also rallying for the change of the corrupt regime. People hope for a society with economic development and justice. People are prepared to put aside their tiny advantages and join the NPP for profound societal changes.

For a long time, those who were together in the government are again trying to mislead the people by presenting various programmess and creating various discussions. People ignore them. That is why they are talking about abolishing the executive presidential system to avoid elections. When there was a massive opposition from the people to the government, they did not remember to abolish the executive presidential system. When it becomes clear that they cannot win in the next presidential election, they are reminded to abolish the office of executive president in a hurry. We are the people who have sacrificed a lot and continued to struggle to abolish the executive presidency. They are the ones who kept the executive presidency by making false promises. Only a government of the National People’s Power can abolish the office of the Executive President and establish people’s sovereignty. After winning the presidential election, we will establish a strong government in the general election, introduce a new state of affairs, establish democracy and take steps to abolish the executive presidency.
Due to the fear of contesting the presidential election, there is talk of a sudden general election. Even if a general election is held, people have already decided to remove the corrupt and thieving gang and build a new government. Those crooks have started distributing the goods as they always do when the election period is near. Stolen public money, money looted from the public by taxing them, money allocated to ministries is distributed for election campaigns. The president invited the people of our country to Dambulla, saying that he would give free deeds. It is not the president who should give deeds; It is the relevant government officials. The people around the country are collected in one place to carry out their election campaigns by distributing different things, from 20 kilos of rice to boxes of matches. Only the coffins were not distributed. After taking that vote, Ranil and the lot stole from the country. The country was in debt. The people suffered a lot. We emphasize to the people not to allow that game again. We have to decide not to betray the country’s future. Do not get flabbergasted by the things they distribute.
Since their only opponent is the National People’s Power, they have started sling mud at us in a new round. If Pohottuwa, the UNP, SJB and small cliques that broke away from these parties say a hundred words on their stages, ninety of them will be ‘Malimawa, Jatika Jana Balawegaya, Anura Dissanayake’. They don’t say their policies. It confirms again and again that the challenge for all these people is the National People’s Power.
It makes us happy. Even though new alliances are formed, or new names are given, those who are in them are the same people. “This is not the time for new experiments,” they say. It means to keep the old groups. People have experimented Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ranil Wickramasinghe and Sajith Premadasa. Everyone knows that they are the ones who failed and destroyed the country. There is nothing new to try. Comrade Nalinda Jayatissa and Comrade Wasantha Samarasinghe pointed out at the Public Utilities Commission about the tactics of the likes of Ranil Wickramasingha knowing fully well that electricity charges can be reduced. In the 19 months that have passed since Ranil Wickramasinghe became the president, he went abroad 19 times spendng government revenues obtained by taxing and oppressing the people. Ranil Wickratamasinghe is escorted to the events where the foreign minister is supposed to go. They are still confirming that they are not ready to go on a new path but would continue to destroy the country.
We have heard that Basil Rajapaksa, who held a meeting of the Pohottu Party on December 15th and went to America on the 16th, will return to Sri Lanka on the 5th of next month. They go to their real home and come here to carry out contracts. All those who dream of becoming the common candidate are responsible for the destruction that bankrupted the country. These are all people who walk the old road. They cannot build the country. Only those who have a new political culture and a vision that can make sacrifices can build the country by making the vast changes needed by the country.
All recent opinion polls have proven that NPP is way in front, and this is disturbing for the old gangs. They try to copy what we do. Recently, instead of criticizing the government, Sajith Premadasa’s party has been attacking the National People’s Power. Even other small gangs follow them. It has become clear to all of them that the power of the aristocrat is being transferred to the hands of the ordinary people. Because of this, Ranil Wickramasinghe has violated the constitution on various occasions.
It has been revealed that the manner in which the Speaker acted while appointing the Inspector General of Police was contrary to the constitution. When the election is near, more conspiracies and different tactics will be used, and they are preparing to use the stolen money and commit various slanders against us. We ask the people to raise our country to a respectable position in front of the world, rebuild the economy and create a new national awakening in the country without surrendering to any of the tactics by the old, corrupt thieving gang.”
