Two hundred bar licenses to quench voting thirst….

A complaint has been lodged at the Election Commission that Ranil Wickremesinghe, as Finance Minister, has issued 200 new bar licenses in preparation for the upcoming presidential election.
In this regard, on the 12th, “Sri Lanka Liquor Licensees’ Association complained to the Election Commission. A group of representatives, including Vice President Prasanna Verithanage, complained and stated that the Excise Department’s head had issued the relevant permits.

Speaking to the media after making the complaint, Vice President Prasanna Withanage said, “When the current President and Finance Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has deposited bail as a candidate in this year’s presidential election, the issuance of 200 new licenses by the Excise Department under him is a factor affecting the election.” Complaints have asked the Commission to look into the matter and take steps to stop the related illegal act.
