UN Coordinator in Sri Lanka meets AKD
United Nations Sri Lanka Coordinator Marc-André Franche met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Office yesterday (03).
The UN Resident Coordinator presented the greetings of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
He praised the upright nature of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s political campaign in the last presidential election and admired the election policy statement.
The Resident Coordinator pointed out that the upcoming period will be challenging as public expectations are high and assured that the United Nations will support Sri Lanka’s program and poverty alleviation efforts with the International Monetary Fund.
He praised the anti-corruption program outlined in President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s election manifesto and stated that the United Nations would provide technical and financial support for those efforts.
Also, Resident Coordinator Mark Andrew Prance, who has praised the unique initiatives of the new government of Sri Lanka for national peace among the communities, appreciated the president’s commitment to developing trust between different groups and said that the United Nations will provide full support for this initiative to promote sustainable peace in the country.
