Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a US security guarantees document for Ukraine is now "100% ready." This follows two days of discussions involving representatives from Ukraine, the US, and Russia. Zelenskyy, speaking in Vilnius during his visit to Lithuania, mentioned that Ukraine is awaiting its partners to decide on a signing date. After signing, the document will proceed to the US Congress and Ukrainian parliament for ratification.

Zelenskyy Confirms US Security Agreement Ready

President Zelenskyy stated that the US security guarantees document for Ukraine is fully prepared and awaits a signing date. He highlighted Ukraine's aspirations for EU membership by 2027 and reaffirmed the importance of territorial integrity in ongoing discussions.

The recent talks in Abu Dhabi marked a significant trilateral meeting, including diplomats and military representatives from Ukraine, the US, and Russia. These discussions aimed to address Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, which has lasted nearly four years. Despite fundamental differences between Ukrainian and Russian positions, Zelenskyy stressed the importance of respecting Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Ukraine's EU Membership Ambitions

Zelenskyy also highlighted Ukraine's ambition to join the European Union by 2027, describing it as an "economic security guarantee." The discussions in Abu Dhabi were seen as a crucial step towards resolving the conflict, with military and economic issues being key topics. The talks began on Friday and continued into Saturday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in discussions with US President Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. These marathon talks took place late Thursday. The Kremlin maintained that for a peace deal to be reached, Kyiv must withdraw its troops from eastern areas annexed by Russia but not fully controlled.

Challenges in Reaching a Compromise

Zelenskyy acknowledged that finding common ground remains challenging. He stated that "all sides must be ready for compromise." A US official noted that negotiators are set to return to the UAE on February 1 for further discussions. The recent talks explored various military and economic matters, including the potential for a ceasefire before finalising any agreement.

However, there is still no consensus on a framework for overseeing Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. This plant, occupied by Russia, is the largest in Europe. The lack of agreement on this issue highlights ongoing challenges in reaching a comprehensive settlement.

The discussions represent a concerted effort to end hostilities and establish lasting peace. As negotiations continue, all parties involved are urged to consider compromises necessary for progress. The outcome of these talks could significantly impact regional stability and future diplomatic relations.
