IMF representatives meet representatives of new government today !
The previous government committed Sri Lanka to an agreement to receive credit facilities from the International Monetary Fund, and today, the IMF representatives are scheduled to meet the new government for the first time.
The loan of 2.9 billion dollars has been agreed to be given to Sri Lanka in eight instalments. The delegation is in the island
purely on a courtesy call, and they will discuss only conceptual matters regarding the IMF agreement with the President.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath, speaking at the inaugural Cabinet briefing of the new government, said that the government will not discuss any structural changes to the IMF agreement with the IMF delegation but will discuss them at a meeting scheduled with a Sri Lankan delegation at IMF Headquarters at the end of this month.
