Former Chief Justice Neville Samarakoon Exposed JR Regime’s Political Interference in Judiciary
Former Chief Justice Neville Samarakoon had previously exposed the political maneuvers initiated during the regime of President J.R. Jayewardene aimed at compromising judicial independence and obstructing the proper administration of justice.
Following these revelations, then-Prime Minister Ranasinghe Premadasa moved an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Samarakoon. However, prioritizing the dignity and integrity of the judiciary, Neville Samarakoon resigned from his post before the proceedings concluded.
