Namal Rajapaksa Named as Suspect in Airbus Deal Case

National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), MP Namal Rajapaksa, has been named as a suspect in the ongoing money laundering case at the Fort Magistrate’s Court regarding the massive financial fraud in the 2013 SriLankan Airlines Airbus aircraft procurement.
The Attorney General instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to name Namal Rajapaksa as a suspect in the case, following which the CID submitted a report on the matter to the Fort Magistrate’s Court last Friday. Based on these submissions, the Fort Magistrate ordered that MP Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, be produced before the court on September 16.
Previously, MP Namal Rajapaksa was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on September 04 in connection with investigations into the Airbus transaction. Following his presentation before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, he was remanded until September 18.
