Interpol Issues Blue Notice Against Evading Basil Rajapaksa

Interpol has issued a Blue Notice against former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, who has been evading court appearances, the police announced.
Commenting on the matter, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala stated that the notice was issued following a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sri Lanka.
Several court cases are pending against Basil Rajapaksa in Sri Lanka, and he has repeatedly avoided appearing before the judiciary by citing various reasons.
In July, the Matara Chief Magistrate’s Court re-issued an arrest warrant against him due to his failure to appear in court regarding an ongoing case involving the purchase of a 1.5-perch land at Browns Hill, Eliyakanda Road, Matara, valued at Rs. 60 million.
The Interpol Blue Notice allows international investigative authorities to gather information regarding the suspect’s identity, current location, or activities.
