Sri Lanka’s Export Earnings Cross $12 Billion Mark in First Eight Months of 2026
Sri Lanka’s total export earnings have surpassed the $12 billion mark in the first eight months of 2026, according to the Export Development Board (EDB).
Total export revenue reached US$ 12.01 billion during this period, recording a growth of 4.26% compared to the US$ 11.52 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
Both merchandise and services sectors contributed positively to this expansion:
Merchandise Exports: Recorded a 3.63% increase, reaching US$ 9.41 billion.
Services Exports: Grew by 6.59%, reaching US$ 2.60 billion.
The EDB highlighted that the strong export performance from January to August 2026 demonstrates the resilience of the country’s external sector. The board added that this positive growth marks a successful step toward building a more diversified, competitive, and export-driven economy in line with Sri Lanka’s long-term economic goals.
