The “Aththama” National Cleanliness Programme is set to be launched across Sri Lanka tomorrow (8), jointly organised by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the Prajashakthi Secretariat, and the Sri Lanka Army.
The countrywide campaign aims to cover all Grama Niladhari divisions through a three-stage planning process, with a main programme to be held in each district under the leadership of District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries, alongside a main programme in each Divisional Secretariat area on the day.
The programme’s primary objectives are to promote mutual co-operation and labour-sharing within communities, particularly among youth; foster a positive attitude toward public property while developing underutilised public facilities; maintain public spaces such as highways and markets to create a visually pleasing environment; and eliminate potential disease breeding grounds caused by environmental pollution.
Its key expected outcomes include sustaining a clean, beautiful and healthy environment; nurturing a future generation of environmentally conscious citizens with the knowledge and attitudes to protect it; raising the quality of life through improved public facilities; and strengthening mutual relations, coexistence and a sense of civic responsibility among citizens.
