Bill to Prevent Organized Crime Gazetted in Sri Lanka

The government has officially published the Prevention of Organized Crime Bill in the government gazette.
The primary objective of the proposed legislation is to establish a robust legal framework to prevent organized crime in Sri Lanka, effectively combat serious offenses, and protect society from the threats posed by organized criminal syndicates.
Furthermore, the bill aims to strengthen national and international cooperation in combating severe crimes, while laying the legal foundation necessary to enforce the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.
The proposal to draft this new legislation was previously approved during the Cabinet meeting held on March 30.
