Education Ministry Announces 2026 School Term Dates and A-Level Examination Schedule
August 06, Colombo (LNW): The Ministry of Education has announced the schedule for the conclusion of the first phase and the start of the second phase of the third school term for government schools and government-approved private schools in 2026.
According to the Ministry, the first phase of the third term for Sinhala and Tamil medium schools will come to an end on Friday, August 07. For Muslim schools, the first phase of the term will continue until Wednesday, September 02.
The second phase of the third term is scheduled to commence for all schools on Monday, September 07, and will continue until Friday, December 04, when the 2026 academic year’s third term activities are expected to conclude.
The Education Ministry also announced that the 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination will be conducted from Monday, August 10 to Saturday, September 05.
Students, parents and school authorities have been advised to take note of the revised academic calendar and examination dates to ensure necessary arrangements are made ahead of the upcoming term activities and national examinations.
