August 31, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka’s expressway network recorded its highest-ever earnings over a five-day holiday stretch last week, collecting more than Rs. 355 million in toll revenue, according to Road Development Authority Director General Anuradha Hettiarachchi.
The strong performance reflects a significant increase in traffic as motorists took advantage of the extended break to travel between major cities and popular destinations across the island.
The latest figures underline the growing importance of the expressway system in accommodating heavy holiday traffic while generating substantial revenue for the State.
RDA officials said the record collection was driven by the unusually high volume of vehicles using the expressways throughout the holiday period.
