September 11, Colombo (LNW): Gold prices in Sri Lanka recorded a noticeable drop on Thursday, with both 22-carat and 24-carat gold falling by around Rs. 4,000 compared with the previous day’s rates.
Market information from the Colombo Pettah gold trade showed that a 22-carat sovereign was being sold at approximately Rs. 343,200 this morning, down from Rs. 347,000 on Wednesday.
The decline was also reflected in the higher-purity category. A 24-carat sovereign, which had been priced at Rs. 377,000 a day earlier, was quoted at around Rs. 373,000 today.
The latest movement provides some relief for buyers following recent fluctuations in local gold prices. Traders said prices in the domestic market remain sensitive to changes in international gold rates, currency movements and broader market conditions.
