India’s External Affairs Minister and SL’s Opposition Leader discuss strengthening relations

June 20, Colombo (LNW): Indian Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar met with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in Colombo today (20).

During their discussion, Premadasa expressed his appreciation for India’s support and highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two countries, stressing the importance of its continuity.

Premadasa assured that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) would uphold this relationship with India if it came into power.

The Opposition Leader acknowledged India’s contributions, especially in housing projects and the Suwa Seriya ambulance service.

He also commended India’s education policy and expressed his intent to implement a similar modernised education strategy in Sri Lanka.

Sajith Premadasa extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his reappointment.

Dr. Jaishankar conveyed Prime Minister Modi’s satisfaction with the Opposition Leader’s efforts to bolster bilateral relations.

He reaffirmed India’s commitment to maintaining close ties with Sri Lanka and expressed his enthusiasm for further developing this enduring friendship.

The meeting was attended by Parliamentarians Prof. G. L. Peiris, Eran Wickramaratne, Palani Thigamparam, Rauff Hakeem, Niroshan Perera, and V. Radhakrishnan, representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and Samagi Jana Alliance.
