Police used water cannons to disperse a protest staged by the Socialist Youth Union (SYU) near Town Hall in Colombo. The protesters were marching from Hyde Park towards the Viharamahadevi Park to commemorate the Black July riots in 1983. Police, the Anti-Riot Squad and Sri Lanka Army personnel were deployed in the area. Pix by Nimsalsiri Edirisinghe
