...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
Death Eaters on Tuesday launched a daring attack in Jana Cabdalle, a town located in Jubaland state, reports indicate, in an attack which was direct Dire Revenge following the takeover coordinated by regional troops and the Somali National Army [SNA] last month.
The town was captured by the Jubaland Darwish forces last month following an operation that was activated by President Ahmed Islam Mohammed Madobe, the Jubaland leader who has been a champion in the fight against the Death Eaters for the last ten years since his time in Ras Kamboni Brigade.
Residents in Bulogudud reported hearing the huge explosion early Tuesday morning and it is believed that the Death Eaters exchanged fire with the Death Eaters who were forcing entry. More often than not, the al-Shabaab coordinate retaliatory attacks in areas that have been liberated by the military.
Al-Shabaab group claimed its fighters targeted Jana Cabdalle with the complex attack but until now, the casualty is not known. The group did not disclose the motive of the attack but in most instances, they have been going for innocent civilians, members of the security forces, and in some cases, senior government officials.
Jubaland has been closely working with the Somali National Army [SNA], the US Africa Command, and the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] which are stationed in Sectors II and VI. The teams are credited for liberating several strategic towns including Kismayo
...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region....
, the regional administrative capital of Jubaland.
During the battle last month, Jubaland State announced launching the first of a ’multi-front military offensive’ against al-Shabaab. Jubaland reported that federal and regional forces captured Jana Cabdalle, about 52km northwest of Kismayo town without a fight, and went on to secure the village.
Somalia has heightened operations against al-Shabaab for the last seven months, killing about 600 Death Eaters in the process. To further frustrate the attackers, the government has incorporated religious scholars in trying to prevent the radicalization of hopeless youths who are lured into the group.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has also tightened loopholes for al-Shabaab finances with the group losing millions of dollars from banks and mobile money transfer firms associated with them. Business owners who have been remitting taxes to the Death Eaters have also been warned, with some risking cancellation of their licenses.
There has been no fighting in the past week, fuelling speculation in Somalia that the offensive has stalled.
The government said it was merely observing a pause before launching the next phase of operations.
Al Shabaab attacked the base in Janay Abdale, about 60 km (37 miles) to the west of the port city of Kismayu, early in the morning with a car bomb and gunfire, Major Abdullahi Hussein told Reuters from Kismayu.
He said al Shabaab had cut communications in the area and that the army had sent reinforcements.
The Jubbaland government said regional and national forces had inflicted a “big blow” on al Shabaab but did not provide details.
Halima Osman said her husband, who survived the attack and managed to get out of the base, had called her with a colleague’s phone.
“He told me they ran into the bush after the bombing and fierce fighting killed many of his friends and the military vehicles were burnt,” she told Reuters.
Al Shabaab confirmed it was behind the attack. “We control the base. We took all their weapons,” it said in a statement.
Speaking to Radio Shabelle, a resident said that the fight was very intense and lasted for almost one hour. The combined forces managed to successfully repel the ambush.
The preliminary reports from the area indicated that the attack resulted in losses on the two warring parties, but the number still remained unclear.

Terrorists Impose N2million ‘Fine’ On Zamfara Communities To Allow Them Hold Elections

EXCLUSIVE: Terrorists Impose N2million ‘Fine’ On Zamfara Communities To Allow Them Hold Elections, Levy Polling Units N200,000 Each | Sahara Reporters https://t.co/rBgT7rqQaD pic.twitter.com/DmGDJVjUlT
— Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) March 7, 2023 Terrorists, locally dubbed as bandidos, whose activities have recently resumed in the North-West, have imposed a total sum of N2million on residents of Yan-buki, Kadamutsa and Dada communities under the Zurmi local government area of Zamfara State, before they can participate in the Saturday’s elections, SaharaReporters has learnt. Several sources confirmed this on Monday, including a tweet shared by @AM_Saleeem, a northern social media influencer, on Monday afternoon. He wrote, "Bandits have imposed N2million levy each on Yan-buki, Kadamutsa and Dada communities under zurmi LGA, Zamfara State N200,000 for every PU, before they could conduct the gubernatorial election in the above areas. The residents confirmed." Zamfara is one of 31 Nigerian states that will elect new governors on March 11—two weeks after the presidential and National Assembly elections. Zurmi local government area of the state is one of the most attacked areas in the state by faceless myrmidons in recent times. In October, no fewer than ten communities in the Local Government Area were attacked by armed bandidos within a week. The names of the villages affected were given as Yanbuki, Bindin, Kadamutsa, Gidan Zago, Marmaro, Dada, Maduba, Kacha, Huhu, Dangasamu, Hushin Dusti. This made many villagers to desert their homes due to fear of constant attacks. (ISIS), said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin following his arrival in the capital Baghdad on Tuesday, as the 20th anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq approaches.
Austin is currently on a multi-day tour to Washington partner nations in the Middle East. He kicked off his tour in Jordan on Sunday, meeting with King Abdullah II. The purpose of the defense chief’s visit is to emphasize US’ continued commitment to their partners in the region, according to the Pentagon.
After landing in Baghdad, the Austin met with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and Defense Minister Thabet Muhammad al-Abbasi, reiterating Washington’s commitment to assisting Iraq in eliminating the threat of ISIS.
"We are focused on the mission of defeating ISIS [ISIS]. We are here for no other purpose," said Austin in a presser in Baghdad, adding that US troops are ready to remain Iraq upon the invitation of the government.
Austin is also set to visit the Kurdistan Region’s capital of Erbil later in the day where he will meet with the Kurdistan Region's President and Commander-in-Chief of the Region's Armed Forces Nechirvan Barzani.
The global coalition against ISIS was formally established in October 2014, after ISIS took control of vast swathes of territories in Iraq and Syria. Consisting of 79 nations and five international organizations, the US-led coalition seeks to ensure ISIS’ "enduring defeat."
The US security relationship with Iraq fully transitioned into an advising and assisting role in December 2021. There are currently about 2,500 US troops in Iraq, including in the Kurdistan Region.

"Mohammad Wael Ghazzawi, 26, was killed by occupation (Israeli) bullets to the chest in Jenin," the ministry said in a statement, shortly after reporting five people had been maimed.
The Israel army said "security forces are currently operating in the Jenin (refugee) camp" in the northern West Bank, but gave no further details.

landed inside the Strip; attempted attack comes after Jenin anti-terror operation that left six Paleostinians dead
A failed rocket launch set off alert sirens in southern Israel during the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning, as security forces were on high alert following a deadly raid against bully boyz in the West Bank. The sirens went off in Nir Am, a kibbutz next to the northern part of Gaza, near the city of Sderot.
The Israeli Defense Forces said a rocket that had been fired from Gaza landed within the confines of the Strip. Crude projectiles used by Gaza terror groups sometimes malfunction and fail to make it into Israeli territory.
On Tuesday, police in Jerusalem and surrounding areas were put on increased alert amid fears Paleostinians would attempt to exact Dire Revenge for the raid by Israeli troops in Jenin that left six dead. The move was announced hours after Israeli troops entered Jenin and surrounded a house as they hunted the suspected terrorist who killed two Israelis in the West Bank last week. The incursion set off a gunbattle that left six Paleostinians dead, including Abdel Fattah Hussein Kharousha, 49, the wanted terrorist.
Kharousha, a Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, member from the Askar refugee camp near Nablus, opened fire on an Israeli car driving through the northern West Bank town of Huwara on February 26, killing Israeli brothers Hallel and Yagel Yaniv. The Hamas terror group rules the Gaza Strip.
Paleostinian health officials said another 12 people were maimed in the Jenin raid, three seriously.
Three Israeli soldiers were maimed, one moderately and two lightly.
Troops also raided Nablus, arresting the two sons of the alleged Huwara killer, Khaled and Muhammed Kharousha, the IDF said. According to the Shin Bet, the pair were suspected of planning and helping carry out the February 26 attack in Huwara.

[IsraelTimes] US Ambassador Ned Price also expresses concern over latest settler attack in Huwara, but does not urge restraint from Israel; Jordan, PA condemn operation that killed 6, including terror suspect.
Six Palestinians were killed in the Tuesday daytime raid, including 49-year-old Abdel Fattah Hussein Kharousha, the Hamas member behind last week’s Huwara terror shooting. The other five were members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror groups. Twelve other Palestinians were injured, three of whom were seriously, the Palestinian health ministry said. Israel Police said three officers of the elite Yamam counterterrorism unit were wounded during the raid, one of whom moderately and the other two lightly.
