September 15, Colombo (LNW): Monthly welfare payments under Sri Lanka’s Aswesuma programme are scheduled to be deposited into beneficiaries’ bank accounts on Wednesday, 16 September, the Welfare Benefits Board has announced.
According to the Board, families covered by the programme’s first phase will receive a combined payment of Rs. 9.18 billion this month. The allocation will be distributed among 992,053 beneficiary households.
A further Rs. 2.12 billion has been set aside for 213,335 families receiving assistance under the second phase of the scheme.
This brings the total September disbursement across the two phases to approximately Rs. 11.3 billion, benefiting more than 1.2 million families.
Welfare Benefits Board Chairman Nimal Kotawalagedara said recipients would be able to withdraw or otherwise access the funds through their designated Aswesuma bank accounts from Thursday, 17 September.
