SL Police Team Heads to Malaysia to Escort Three Suspects Allegedly Linked to Organised Criminal Activity
August 10, Colombo (LNW): A specially assigned Sri Lankan police team has travelled to Malaysia to escort three suspects arrested in connection with alleged organised criminal activity back to Sri Lanka, police sources said.
Among those being brought back is Danushka Kaushalya, also known as ‘Ratmalane Saima’, who is alleged to have been closely linked to several prominent underworld figures. The three suspects are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka later today (10) under the supervision of a police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Olugala.
The arrests were made during a joint operation involving Sri Lankan and Malaysian law enforcement authorities. Police said one of the suspects is reportedly a close associate of organised crime figure Kanjipani Imran and is also wanted internationally under an Interpol Red Notice.
According to investigators, Ratmalane Saima is alleged to have played a role in managing Kanjipani Imran’s financial affairs and overseeing aspects of his social media operations, including the circulation of audio recordings attributed to him.
Investigators have further alleged that Saima assisted another wanted underworld figure, Kehelbaddara Padme, while he was reportedly hiding in Malaysia last year. Police believe this was carried out on the instructions of Kanjipani Imran.
Police investigations have also uncovered Saima’s previous links to another organised crime figure known as ‘Kudu Anju’, who is believed to be residing in France. Authorities allege that Saima later moved closer to Kanjipani Imran after learning of an alleged plan by Kudu Anju to have him killed.
Saima is believed to have left Sri Lanka for Malaysia approximately a decade ago, according to police.
The three individuals are wanted in connection with investigations into several alleged murders and other organised criminal activities.
