Sri Lanka Activates Emergency Support for Nationals Caught in Nepal Floods
August 27, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka has moved to assist its citizens affected by the flash floods in Nepal, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism putting emergency support and coordination measures in place as rescue and relief operations continue.
The ministry said arrangements have been made to provide immediate assistance, coordinate with relevant authorities and offer any necessary support to Sri Lankan nationals who may have been caught up in the flooding.
Sri Lankans in Nepal who require urgent assistance have been advised to contact the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu through its round-the-clock emergency hotline on +977 985 104 8653. They may also contact the embassy by email at [email protected].
The ministry has additionally made available the contact details of Director General of Public Diplomacy and Spokesperson Thushara Rodrigo for Sri Lankan nationals seeking information or updates concerning the situation in Nepal.

Authorities have urged Sri Lankan citizens currently in Nepal to exercise caution and prioritise their safety while the flood emergency persists. They have also been advised to monitor official announcements closely and comply with instructions issued by local authorities as rescue, evacuation and relief activities proceed.
The ministry said it will continue to coordinate assistance as required, with the situation being monitored amid the ongoing flash flood emergency.
