July 27, Colombo (LNW): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath represented Sri Lanka at the High-Level Conference of the High Contracting Parties to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Southeast Asia, held on July 24, 2026 in Pasay City, Metro Manila, the Philippines.
The conference marked the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, a landmark regional agreement that promotes peaceful relations, mutual respect and constructive engagement among countries in Southeast Asia and beyond. The event brought together foreign ministers and senior delegates from ASEAN member states, along with representatives from dialogue partner countries, to reaffirm their commitment to regional stability, cooperation and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Herath took part in the official commemorative events, including the ceremonial proceedings and the traditional group photograph with fellow foreign ministers and heads of delegation.
Sri Lanka’s participation reflected its continued commitment to deepening relations with ASEAN and supporting initiatives aimed at fostering peace, dialogue and economic cooperation across the region. The Ministry noted that Colombo attaches considerable importance to its engagement with ASEAN as it seeks to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
