August 04, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka experienced a modest decline in international visitor arrivals in July 2026, with the latest figures from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showing a small year-on-year drop despite continued strong interest from key overseas markets.
According to the SLTDA, 196,845 foreign tourists visited the country during the month, representing a 1.7 per cent decrease compared with the corresponding period in July 2025.
India continued to dominate as Sri Lanka’s largest tourism source market, contributing 44,547 visitors, or around 26 per cent of all arrivals recorded during the month.
The United Kingdom remained the second-largest contributor with 21,834 arrivals, while the Netherlands ranked third with 12,493 visitors. China followed closely with 12,336 arrivals, and France completed the top five source markets with 10,102 tourists.
Despite the slight decline recorded in July, overall tourism numbers have remained robust. The SLTDA said that 1,343,418 international visitors arrived in Sri Lanka between January 01 and July 31, 2026, reflecting the sector’s continued contribution to the country’s economic recovery and foreign exchange earnings.
