August 24, Colombo (LNW): Sri Lanka is stepping up efforts to attract international capital and deepen engagement with overseas investors as preparations gather pace for the Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit 2026.

Government officials and representatives of the private sector recently met with Colombo-based diplomatic missions to present investment opportunities and encourage wider international participation in the two-day event.

The briefing was jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies.

Deputy Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Minister Arun Hemachandra said the country was seeing increasing potential to attract foreign direct investment, particularly as businesses looked towards emerging markets. He also called for stronger cooperation between government institutions and businesses, arguing that effective public-private partnerships would be essential to achieving durable economic growth.

A senior official from the Foreign Ministry’s Economic Affairs (Bilateral) division similarly stressed the need for closer government-business collaboration, with the aim of developing Sri Lanka into a more prominent regional centre for trade and investment.

Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chairperson Krishan Baldendra spoke about the broader objectives of the investment summit and its potential to connect Sri Lankan businesses with international partners. Chamber Secretary General and CEO Shiran Fernando provided diplomatic representatives with details of the programme, registration arrangements and facilities planned for overseas delegations.

The government hopes diplomatic missions will play a key role in drawing investors and business leaders from their respective countries to the summit, while helping raise Sri Lanka’s profile as a destination for long-term and sustainable investment.

The Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit 2026 is scheduled to take place in Colombo on October 12 and 13. The event is expected to bring together government representatives, investors and business leaders to explore new commercial partnerships, promote private-sector involvement and identify opportunities across sectors with potential for sustained economic expansion.

With the country continuing to seek stronger integration with international markets, organisers are positioning the summit as an opportunity to turn renewed investor interest into practical partnerships and fresh sources of capital.
