Sri Lanka Unveils 40-Member Squad for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka (CGA Sri Lanka) on Wednesday (15) officially unveiled Team Sri Lanka for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with a 40-member athlete contingent set to compete across seven sports.

The squad was announced at a press conference held at Olympic House in Colombo, attended by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage and British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick.

Sri Lanka’s contingent comprises 27 male and 13 female athletes, supported by 14 sport-specific officials. The athletes will compete in athletics, para athletics, weightlifting, boxing, judo, artistic gymnastics and swimming.

Former Olympian Niluka Karunaratne has been appointed Chef de Mission, while Mohamed Rifath will serve as the General Team Manager.

Para athlete Palitha Bandara has been named Sri Lanka’s flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony, while fellow para athlete Janani Dhananjana has been selected as the baton bearer. National javelin record holder Rumesh Tharanga will captain the Sri Lankan team.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held from July 23 to August 2, with Team Sri Lanka scheduled to begin its campaign on July 24.
