Sugar tax robbery under Sagala & Ranil’s is Rs. 1000 million

It is revealed that the sugar tax fraud that has been committed under Finance Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and his chief adviser Sagala Ratnayake by raising the tax from 25 cents to 50 rupees for a kilo of sugar is approximately Rs. 1000 million.
State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has revealed that 19,000 metric tons of sugar was imported into Sri Lanka before the tax increase. Thus, 19,000,000 Kg of sugar was imported before the tax increased by 49.75 rupees. As a result, the traffickers have received an amount of Rs. 945,250,000 as an additional tax profit.
It has been alleged that the racketeers have been allowed to make undue profits as a part of a conspiracy to collect funds for the UNP for an upcoming election.
