August 18, Colombo (LNW): A man wanted by Sri Lankan authorities in connection with a number of serious criminal investigations has been brought back to the country from Oman and handed over for further questioning.
Kankanamage Dimuthu Chathuranga Perera, also known as ‘Summitpura Chathu’ and ‘Modara Chathu’, arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake early on Tuesday (18) after being detained in Muscat by officers attached to Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The 38-year-old, a resident of Summitpura in Modara, Colombo 15, is alleged to have links to organised criminal activity. Investigators had been seeking him in connection with several offences, including the killing of ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’.
According to the authorities, Perera left Sri Lanka for Oman on March 22, 2025 using a passport believed to have been fraudulently obtained or altered.
Following his arrival at the airport, he was placed under heightened security and transported to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), where investigators are expected to question him over the allegations and his suspected involvement in criminal activities.
The authorities are continuing their investigations into his alleged role and any links he may have had with other individuals involved in organised crime.
