August 30, Colombo (LNW): Two Chinese nationals arrested over the alleged abduction and killing of another Chinese citizen at Colombo Port City have been placed under 24-hour detention orders following their appearance before the Hulftsdorp No. 8 Magistrate’s Court.
The suspects were taken into custody on 28 August during a Colombo Crimes Division operation in the Sigiriya area, police said. Investigators believe they are among three people wanted in connection with the case, while efforts are continuing to locate the third suspect.
Police said the arrests followed an extensive investigation. The two men are alleged to have remained in Sri Lanka after the incident while changing their identities and physical appearances in an attempt to evade detection.
The case centres on an incident reported on the night of 22 July. According to investigators, three Chinese nationals were fishing from a bridge inside Colombo Port City when another group, travelling in a van, allegedly confronted and assaulted them. The attackers are accused of restraining the three men before taking one of them away.
The victim was subsequently found dead in the Karadana area of Eheliyagoda.
A post-mortem examination determined that he had suffered fatal internal injuries caused by stab wounds. Police later identified the deceased as Hao Song and said investigations had indicated that he had been linked to computer-related criminal activity.
Authorities have previously detained two other Chinese nationals in relation to the investigation, as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the abduction and killing.
