“Who tells these idiotic stories?” – harsh statement from Cardinal

Source
Commenting on the government’s preparations to build a bridge connecting Sri Lanka to India, Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith says, “What will happen if another bridge is built. Who comes out with these stupid stories? Our country has always been free. We were never slaves of any state. It was not broken from another country. Sri Lanka has been separate since ancient times. The kings of this country dealt economically only between Sri Lanka and India, but we were not slaves to anyone.” Cardinal said, “They are selling pieces of our country to different countries. They are working to lead this country to destruction by taking various stupid decisions by surrendering to different forces. Stupid stories and idiotic things are being prepared that will destroy our freedom more and more. They are going to build a bridge to India. Aren’t the problems we have with India need to be more? These guys are trying to collect more problems. They are going to build a bridge from India to Sri Lanka when there was a time when they dropped dhal from the air; when an army was sent to Sri Lanka. We were forced to implement certain things based on their opinion and forced them on our shoulders. What will happen if another bridge is built? Who comes out with these stupid stories? Our country has always been a free country. We were never slaves of any state. It was not broken from another country. Sri Lanka has been separate since ancient times. The kings of this country dealt economically only between Sri Lanka and India, but we were not slaves to anyone. It is these people who are gradually betraying this country and destroying this country. Dear brothers and sisters, if our country fell under a foreign nation, it was because of the betrayal of our leaders. It could happen again tomorrow. If such a decision is taken in this country, if we respect everyone’s opinion, if it is a democratic country, there should be a special opinion survey regarding such a ruling. It is wrong to do these things without public opinion. It is not a democratic system. We are really sorry for our country today. Thousands of acres of land are given out. The country is being broken into pieces. We will be left with nothing. This is an illness. If these destructive forces are enslaving our country, we must decide to throw them out.”
