Bar Association opposes Anti-Terrorism Bill
The Sri Lanka Bar Association has issued a press release strongly opposing the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The statement emphasizes the Sri Lanka Bar Association’s firm position that laws that directly or indirectly restrict the fundamental human rights of the country’s citizens should not be enacted.
The Sri Lanka Bar Association states that the Anti-Terrorism Bill has been gazetted without sufficient consultation with the relevant stakeholders, including the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.
The announcement further states that the Sri Lanka Bar Association has also appointed a committee to review the legality of the bill and its consequences.
