A grave suspicion has gripped the media sector as to whether there is a connection between the disappearance of weapons from Sri Lanka Army’s Karandeniya military base and the announcement of the government that there is a plan by IS terrorists for a bomb attack on 7 locations in Colombo. A strong suspicion had arisen for the past year that the government’s security forces were supplying the weapons needed by the underworld gangs on a rental basis. According to the facts that have been revealed concerning the disappearance of a T56 firearm from the armoury of the Karandeniya camp, it has been confirmed that the weapons are being rented out to the underworld. Police sources have reported that evidence has been found recently about many such cases. Meanwhile, the facts about an IS attack, reported as a leading news item in Dinamina newspaper last Friday (6th), have also come under severe observance. The newspaper published “IS Bomb Attack Plan on 7 Colombo Stations – Colombo Terrorist Investigation Unit Report to Court”. The report further stated that a person detained in Pallekele prison had written information from that prison on a piece of paper and thrown it at Thannekumbura police post. Dinamina had further reported that the prisoner had thrown the paper with the relevant information at the police post while being taken from Pallekele to Mahara Prison. There is a danger of creating a situation like the anarchy created in the country when the 52-day coup launched by President Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa in October 2018 until the Easter attack on April 21, 2019, again. It is in this background that a serious suspicion has arisen whether there is a connection between the disappearance of arms from the security forces and the government’s announcement reported by ‘Dinamina’.
