Which is proper SLFP? EC asks AG

The National Election Commission says it asked the Attorney General’s Department in writing which Sri Lanka Freedom Party it should work with. This is said to be due to the party’s recent split into several factions. The Commission states that it will deal with the relevant faction based on the decision received from the Attorney General’s Department.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party is divided into three factions – former President Maithripala Sirisena’s faction, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva’s faction and Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara’s faction.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva’s faction has stated that it will support President Ranil Wickramasinghe in the presidential election. Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara’s faction supports Mr. Sajith Premadasa. Mr. Maithripala Sirisena’s faction has already appointed Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa as a candidate for the presidential election.
