A high-level meeting between Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva and Liu Jie, Governor of China’s Zhejiang Province, was held recently at the Main People’s Assembly Hall in Zhejiang.

The meeting took place during an official visit by Tilvin Silva and a delegation representing Sri Lanka’s National People’s Power movement, invited by the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The two sides discussed the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and China, as well as the ties between the JVP and the CPC. Particular focus was placed on how Zhejiang Province could support Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and future development.

Tilvin Silva outlined the vision of the JVP-led National People’s Power government, which he said is committed to eradicating corruption and fast-tracking economic progress. He expressed confidence that the experience of Zhejiang’s transformation under CPC leadership could serve as both an inspiration and a strategic partnership for Sri Lanka’s path forward.

The Sri Lankan delegation included Deputy Ministers Eranga Gunasekara and Munir Mulaffar, MPs A.M. Jegadeswaran, Deepthi Wasalage, and Dharmapriya Wijesinghe. The Chinese delegation was represented by Deputy Governor Lu Shen and senior CPC officials.

This meeting is seen as a key moment in building stronger ties between Sri Lanka’s emerging political leadership and one of China’s most influential provinces.
