Sri Lanka to Reopen Embassy in Cyprus After Years of Closure
Sri Lanka will officially reopen its embassy in Cyprus on July 20, marking a significant step in restoring diplomatic services for nearly 15,000 Sri Lankans living in the country.
The decision comes following consistent requests from the Sri Lankan community in Cyprus, who have long struggled to access consular services after the closure of the previous embassy. Until now, they were forced to rely on the Sri Lankan Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, for essential diplomatic matters.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, stated that reopening the embassy reflects the government’s commitment to supporting overseas Sri Lankans. He added that the mission would also help foster new employment opportunities and attract trade investments.
The government of Cyprus has formally approved the new mission, and a delegation appointed by the ministry is set to depart on July 15 to begin preparations.
